Urban Density maps for THE NEW AUTOMOBILITY:
Lyft, Uber and the Future of
American Cities
"The New Automobility" presents TNC data for "urban" census tracts, defined as tracts with at least 4,000 persons per square mile, and suburban/rural tracts.
Maps below show (in green) tracts meeting the "urban" definition for selected metropolitan areas. While any definition of urban is somewhat arbitrary, the 4,000 persons per square mile works
well in practice to portray patterns of TNC use across different types of urban and suburban land uses.
